Thanksgiving Ideas for Southeast Texas Families
Let mom relax while creating family memories.
Thanksgiving is a great holiday for everyone. Well, almost everyone. Thanksgiving can be stressful, and a lot of work for moms.
Moms clean the house for a week. They start cooking three or four days ahead of the holiday. While everyone else eats and watches football, moms wash hundreds of dishes. Pots, pans, plates, cups, serving dishes that only get used twice a year.
What if Thanksgiving could be fun for everyone, including mom?
This could be the perfect year to find out.
Consider having Thanksgiving catered this year. There are lots of options for different tastes and price points. Does your turkey usually come out dry? How about some juicy chicken from Popeye’s (they even have a Cajun style turkey during the holidays). Something more exotic? Chinese from Sam’s China Inn in Groves , Sweet Basil in Beaumont, or Auntie Pasta’s in Nacogdoches. Are you looking for a delicious smoked turkey for Thanksgiving. ? Boomtown Barbecue in Beaumont makes a great one.
Skip the big get together entirely. Get out of town and relax at the lake or at the beach. On Sam Rayburn, we like KOA Brookeland. They have tent camping, RV spots, and cabins on Lake Sam Rayburn. In Galveston, we’ve had memorable stays at the hotel at Moody Gardens, The Victorian (comfortable for families), and the Hampton Inn on the Seawall.
Outsource the cleaning. This has been a hectic year. Cleaning for Thanksgiving may be one more thing than mom has time for. Try Merry Maids in Beaumont or Patricia Stubblefield Cleaning Service in Lufkin. If the kids are old enough, you can do a “daddy and the kids cleaning day”.
