Black Friday thoughts for Beaumont and Southeast Texas
Southeast Texas Christians like Black Friday deals as much as anyone. Many, however, are using Black Friday as a time to give as well as a time to receive.
Today we’re sharing some of their ideas with you – if you see one you like, please feel free to use it.
- “Black Friday Tithe”. Some Southeast Texas Christians donate 10% of what they spend on Black Friday to a favorite charity. Others look at what they spent and spend 10% on toys to donate to a toy drive or on food to donate for a Christmas food drive.
- “Black Friday Angel”. Many Southeast Texas seniors have no business fighting crowds at a local department store to save on a single item. Many Southeast Texas Christians offer to pick up an item for a senior neighbor or to help them with on-line ordering.
- “Black Friday recycling”. Most of us have enough clothes in our closets. Some Southeast Texas Christians are pulling one item out of their closet to donate for every new one they buy. If you’re interested in this, check out Texas Workforce. They have a program where people can donate clothes for the less fortunate to wear on job interviews.
- Get your kids involved. Is your child getting a PS4? Have them wrap up their old game system for donation to someone who will appreciate it.
- “Black Friday Avoidance“. For some people, including some Southeast Texas Christians, shopping becomes a means to fill an emotional hole. Some of these people choose to avoid Black Friday all together. If you think this would be best for you, some options to take your mind off the shopping frenzy are assisting an elderly neighbor with their Christmas decorations, practicing Christmas carols with neighbors or friends, putting together your family’s Christmas card, catching up on scrap booking last year’s holiday photos, recording some of your families treasured holiday recipes, or putting up your Thanksgiving decorations and getting out your Christmas decorations.
Do you have a special way you’ve turned Black Friday into an opportunity to give to others? We’d love to hear about it.
