On today’s Southeast Texas Christian Book Review, we examine “Promises” by Susan A. Perkins.
Pastor and Christian author, Susan A. Perkins, delivers readers a thought- provoking read filled with delightfully real people, struggles we still share today, and a story of friendship and love that spans a lifetime in her novel, Promises.
Through her use of believable characters and true-to-life situations, Perkins allows readers to visualize life during the time of Jesus Christ. Her unique approach to the Christian novel offers an alternative route to exploring life’s most basic questions.
Promises features best friends, Onnua and Eunice, as they vow that no matter where life leads, they will always be friends. Fate has a much different course for their life journeys.
The best friends end up marrying mortal enemies, and their husbands’ hate keeps them apart. It is only with the love of Jesus that these rival families can come together and learn to love each other.
Themes of love, friendship and families are explored as the main characters must figure out what Christ means to them, how He will impact their lives, and what influence He will have on their religious communities and personal beliefs.
“Although this book is about love, families, and friendship, it is not about romance. Throughout the entire book, the hard choices made by the emerging Judeo-Christian community is detailed,” says Perkins.
