In Southeast Texas, We Remember
9/11
This was my September 11th experience.
I was one of the last people over the Queen’s Bridge, leaving Manhattan.
This is a different bridge, but no one I was with thought about taking pictures. We were in shock.
We also came through later. When we got to the middle, we got out and looked at the carnage.
The first tower had already fallen. The 2nd fell when we were on the bridge.
Some of us cried. Did I? I’m not sure. I think I probably went numb.
Something impossible had happened, and I didn’t know how to process it.
I’ve talked about my experience. I’ve written about what 9/11 was like for me, my roommates, and my co-workers.
I’ve never really gotten it all out though. I don’t think we ever will.
