Thanksgiving in East Texas and the Golden Triangle
No one cooks better than East Texas moms and grandmas.
Most learned from their own mothers and grandmothers.
This is a unique culinary culture where “Cowboy meets Cajun.”
In Lufkin and Beaumont and on Crystal Beach, we make brisket and ribs, but also some of the best gumbo and Étouffée in the country.
Our families, throughout East Texas, enjoy Thanksgiving turkey, but we also love tamales during the holidays.
It can be fun to be the only one who knows a family recipe, making the best buttermilk pie or hot water corn bread, or barbecue rub.
Too often these recipes die with a family member.
If you have a favorite grandson or niece or cousin, make this the year you take the time to pass on that special family recipe, preserving the knowledge for future generations.
If you’d like, you can also ask a family member to help you make a recipe book that will allow multiple family members to recreate the most special family dishes.
Happy Thanksgiving across the Golden Triangle and East Texas.
We hope this Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for you and your family.
