Featured Southeast Texas Church Camp – Camp His Way at Lake Sam Rayburn.
There are a number of wonderful Southeast Texas church camps and East Texas Church Camps. Many are affiliated with a particular denomination. Camp His Way is an interdenominational Christian Camp located on Lake Sam Rayburn near Zavalla.
Camp His Way offers a year round facility for children, youth, and adult groups. Right now, Camp His Way is offering weekday and weekend camps for children.
SetxChurchGuide.com has been able to attend a couple of their weekend children’s camps. A number of churches were represented including Golden Triangle Church of the Rock, Wildwood Baptist Church, and a large group from Bay City.
Each day begins with the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer, and a large communal breakfast. After the morning meal, groups split off for a slate of activities sure to please any child.
During our stay, these included:
– Zip Line
– Water Slides
– Banana Boat
– Lake Swim
– Skills Course
– Archery
– Shooting Range (high tech pellet guns)
– Petting Zoo (featuring what may be the world’s largest pot bellied pig)
Each evening everyone gathers for “chapel” which is kind of like if church was imagined by Disney or maybe Nickelodeon. There are several high energy praise songs with lots of choreography that the children can dance along to. There are skits, magic, and a very popular monkey puppet named String Bean who really, really loves “Memory Verse”.
There are three generous meals per day, but no snacks. The meals were very good and highly appropriate for today’s kids: hamburgers, nachos, salads, pancakes, and spaghetti.
The camp director is Dustin Ellerman, winner of Top Shot on the History Channel (season 3). He is young, energetic, and has a wonderful enthusiasm for Christ that he shares with campers.
