We’ve all taken advantage of some Black Friday deals. There’s certainly nothing wrong with saving money.
After doing it a few times though, we started to think about options for other ways to spend Black Friday in Southeast Texas.
Over the last few years, we’ve been able to try a few.
Here are some of our favorites:
- Spend the day in bed. How many times have you said it to friends? “I’d like to spend a whole day in bed.” If you’re ever going to do it, now is the time. No one is expecting you at work. There are plenty of leftovers in the fridge (and probably on the cabinets and the stove), so the kids can fend for themselves. Put a stack of books next to your bed. Catch up on “Virgin River” or “Firefly Lane”. Moms need to rest and recharge. Take the opportunity.
- Head to Galveston. Families from across Southeast Texas head to Galveston all summer long. Going in the fall is a whole different experience. There are no waits for restaurants. You can walk right on to The Elyssa or right into the Galveston Railroad Museum. Hotels, beach houses, and Air BnBs are cheaper. We stayed at Moody Gardens one Thanksgiving. Another year we stayed at the Hampton Inn on the seawall. Both were enjoyable and gave us some new memories.
- Teach your kids the games your family used to play. Every family has their own. In my family, Spades was always the main game, and we were very competitive. When there were just a couple of us together, we played Cribbage. At my grandparents’ house we played Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. At my uncle’s we played RISK, which was a favorite of mine.
