The Master’s Men of FBC Silsbee originated with the dream of a few devoted Southern Gospel Music fans. Dr. Jimmy Norwood (tenor), Dwight Short (lead), David Diden (baritone), and Bill Wright (bass) collaborated together to start a Southern Gospel Quartet called the Master’s Four. This group of men began their journey back in 1985 and created a legacy that carries through to the present day. In 1996 Mark Frusha came to First Baptist Church, Silsbee as the Minister of Music. Shortly thereafter, Mark Frusha, Dwayne Davis and Jimmy Hayes created a trio called the Minor Third which performed on occasion at First Baptist Church. A Southern Gospel group called The Mighty Voice Quartet was formed which consisted of Keith Morgan, Rick Goldin, Dwight Short, and Mark Frusha. At one Church Homecoming event the first two groups decided to join forces to sing the classic “Here Comes the Bride” and the groups, as well as the crowd, loved it. In 1998 the groups officially joined together and renamed themselves The Master’s Men of FBC Silsbee.
Through the years new faces have been added and some previous members have moved on in various other capacities. Today the group consists of nine members including: Dr. Jimmy Norwood and David Short (tenors); Keith Morgan, Dwight Short and Rick Goldin (leads); Mark Frusha and Josh Strother (baritones); Bill Wright and Wayne Russell (basses).
The Master’s Men of FBC Silsbee are a local/regional group billed as a TEXAS SIZE quartet with a warm blend of talented southern voices. The group has performed on stage with nationally recognized Southern Gospel groups such as: The Kingsmen, The Isaacs, The Perrys, The Hoppers, Phil Cross & Poet Voices, Ernie Haase & the Signature Sound Quartet, The Kingdom Heirs, Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, Legacy Five, Ivan Parker, Gold City, The Talley Trio, Greater Vision, Booth Brothers, Brian Free and Assurance, The Mark Trammell Trio, Mercy’s Mark, The Nelons, Crossway, The Northams, The Bradys, The Calvary Boys, The Crist Family, His Song,The Dixie Melody Boys and more; with crowds ranging from a few to in the thousands.
Though the Master’s Men have performed with such an impressive list of Southern Gospel groups, the group remembers their humble beginnings. Without God’s annointing and the saving grace of Jesus Christ in each man’s life this group would not be where it is today. Since the group does not perform for the profit of its members all proceeds, above expenses, go back into providing our local area with more great Southern Gospel Concerts.
