First Baptist Spurger is doing something a little different this summer.
Many Southeast Texas Christian parents have fond memories of attending church camps. East Texas, Central Texas, and Southeast Texas are dotted with camps devoted to particular Christian denominations or open to Christians generally.
Like anything else, Southeast Texas Christian camps cost money. Unfortunately for many Southeast Texas Christians, money is tight this summer. Even more unfortunately, money is tight for a number of Southeast Texas churches who might ordinarily step in and supplement the cost of sending the children from their congregations to summer camp.
One Southeast Texas church, First Baptist Church Spurger, has decided to tackle the issue by hosting their own summer camp. First Baptist Church Spurger has announced they will be hosting “Kids Camp 2013” through the church rather than at one of our traditional Southeast Texas church camps.
This Southeast Texas church camp will be for Southeast Texas students in grades 3 through 6.
The decision was made by First Baptist Spurger with three goals in mind:
1. Make this year’s camp more affordable for Southeast Texas Christians who want their kids to attend a Christian camp but who are living with tight budgets.
2. Provide a less crowded summer camp environment.
3. Provide a summer camp environment that is low stress on children and their parents.
Activities for the First Baptist Church Spurger summer camp will include:
- Big Thicket Hiking Trails Adventure
- Paradise Waterpark (Lumberton/Silsbee)
- Bible Study
- Crafts
- Games
- Overnight lodging in Spurger
First Baptist Church Spurger is known for creating and supporting events designed to pull the community together and for being welcoming to Southeast Texas children and families.
